Do you guys know if authors make up school and street names and stuff like recording companie names?

Like in the clique did she make up the name Octavian country day school or the names of make-up artist or the names of hair dressers and stuff?? i need help. =)Do you guys know if authors make up school and street names and stuff like recording companie names?
If they are basing their books in the world as we know it: For major landmarks, if it's set in present day and not some sort of alternate timeline, they keep it the same. Major landmarks include freeways, highways, places of interest, etc. For small things like stores or someone's house it's generally made up. Of course, it all depends how intimate the author is with the area they're writing about (i.e. if they're basing the story in an area they grew up in as a child.

It depends on the author. Most things are completely made up. Usually in the front of the book it says something like ';everything in this book is fiction, any resemblance to real life people or places is merely coincidence.';
Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. It's the same case with the Nancy Drew series, even the author name is fake! There is no Carolyn Keene, it's just the book company. It depends on the genre as well.
It depends on the Book and the Author.





Like Stephen King sets alot of his books in Maine. I'm guessing that because he is most familiar with that state and doesnt need to make up anything.
Fiction authors have the liberty of creatigng imaginary places to better suit their story.

Authors do both. I know this is a cliche example but Forks, Washington is actually a place (from Twilight). And in others, the authors create names.
if an author is really into what they're doing and everything, everything they name and what not is planned and probably has some sort of meaning....
Yes. Everything is made up. That's what fiction is. A made up story with made up people.
I guess it's preference according to the person writing.
Sometimes authors make them up, DUH. But they can also use real names
